MEMBER ACTIVITIES

Dick R has built the "BUG" a 3/4 meter hand launched glider (HLG) that was a feature article in the June issue of RCM. Trying to learn what to do with it. One thing that may be of interest to others of you is that I had Eddie (Action Hobbies) cut the wing ribs on his laser machine. I zerox'd the rib plans and sent it to him. Teriffic job of precision cutting. Price is not bad either. Check him out if you need such a thing. Also completing a Great Planes "Fundango" 35 inch wingspan speed 400 electric arobatic plane. Thought I would bring them to next month's meeting if they are still in one piece.

Had another experience with my (Dick R) SLOW POKE. Got it into the air on it's 4th maiden flight. What a challange this plane has been for me. Not that I'm hard headed or anything like that but I insisted on doing it myself as this was my first total project. First one I lost sight of it behind the pavilion and burried the engine 6 inches into the newly plowed field. Second one I tried to trim it out one mistake high, yes made one mistake and dumped it into the pond...engine still there so I claim it when the water goes down. On the third one it rolled left on take off due to engine torque but this time minor damage. That's when I decided to follow the book and do a detailed trim on the runway without taking off. Had a lot of right rudder in to compensate for engine torque and took it off for a successful brief flight as I wanted to reposition the engine to change the thrust line before having any further problems. Well went out few days later and put the Slow Poke into the air. It flew terrificly and all the work and effort was worth it. Couldn't me more pleased. Thanks to Roger for all his help along the way.

Roger flew his Tiger Moth electric and it is a little amazing in the air. Not impressive to look at on the ground but flys really nice but cannot be flown in any kind of wind. It is really a back yard craft.

SCUTTLEBUTT

Heard a number of members were out flying last Sunday. Ernie did your shoes dry off yet? Apparently Ernie's engine died and best he could do was get it close to the field (in the pond).
