The monthly meeting of Graham R/C Flyers was held on Monday, January 13, 2003 at Zack Burkett Co. Members in attendance were Zack Burkett, III, Ernie Jackson, Dick Rovnyak, Marney Ignacio, Bob and Mary Castor, Doc Dockstader, Jim Norred, Oliver Watson and guest Marilyn Watson.
The minutes for the October 14, 2002 meeting were read and approved. Minutes for the November meeting at Lakeside Airpark were not read but will be read for approval at the February meeting. No minutes were taken for the December meeting at the flying field.
Communications: Burkett reported receipt of flyers from the clubs at Seguin and Georgetown, the receipt of the AMA Introductory Pilot renewal forms, and a video from the Weatherford Aeromodelers (WAMS).
Upon a motion and second, it was approved to amend the agenda to conduct elections of officers for 2003.
The following officers were duly elected by the membership, with terms expiring December 31, 2004:
President: Zack Burkett, III by acclamation.
Vice-Preident: Bill Martin by acclamation.
Secretary-Treasurer: Zack Burkett, III by ballot
(other nominees were Dick Rovnyak and Ernie Jackson)
Safety Officer: Brad Brock by acclamation.
Outgoing President Jackson turned the meeting over to newly elected President Burkett.
Officer Reports: Secretary-Treasurer Burkett reported a loss for 2002 of $804.19, due in large part to the purchase of shirts, caps and patches and to the two events. Since inception, the club shows a $597.60 gain (cash in bank).
Committee Reports: Field Committee Chairman Ignacio reported plans to construct permanent pilot cages. A brief discussion followed.
Events Committee Chairman Castor reported receipt of the AMA sanction number for the June 21, 2003 event, sanction number 03-0221. Castor paid the sanction fee of $20. Notes from the December committee meeting were reviewed and Castor will call an Events Committee meeting prior to the regular February meeting to finalize details and duties for the June event, as well as bringing back a recommendation for the format of the annual R/C Roundup event for the fall of 2003.
Membership Committee Chairman Burkett reported receipt of two applications for membership: Fred Brown and Jim Norred. On a motion and second, both were approved for membership.
Introductory Pilot Committee Chairman Jackson encouraged all students and instructors to resume flight instruction. On a motion and second,, Burkett, Martin and Jackson were approved for submittal to AMA as Intro Pilots for 2003.
Public Relations Committee Chairman Dick Rovnyak reported advertising efforts for the Chamber of Commerce marquee for the June event. He and Castor are to coordinate possible subscriptions to Model Aviation magazine for the high school and The Library of Graham, if possible. It was the consensus to pay for such subscriptions out of club funds if necessary. Rovnyak also reported his plans to apply for Contest Director designation with AMA.
New Business: Bill Martin reported that plans were underway for the annual EAA event at the Graham Municipal Airport this spring. He agreed to be in charge of GRCFs plans for participation in the event.
The question of Associate Membership to GRCF was discussed, and Burkett agreed to draft a definition of such member classification to accommodate potential members who do not wish to participate as a pilot but wish to be a non-flying, non-AMA member of GRCF.
Program: Bill Martin presented his Kyosho Gee Bee K model, an ARF version sporting a YS 63 engine. Bill described its handling as bank and yank. Very aerobatic.
