The monthly meeting of Graham R/C Flyers was held on Monday, August 12, 2002 at Zack Burkett Co. office. President Ernie Jackson called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
Attending were members Zack Burkett, III, Dick Rovnyak, Marney Ignacio, Bob Castor, Mary Castor and President Jackson.
Minutes from the July 7, 2002 meeting were read and approved.
COMMUNICATIONS Rovnyak reported printing and mailing the brochures for the September 28, 2002 R/C Roundup Fun-Scale Event. Burkett reported receipt of (1) Abilene R/C Society Newsletter, (2) a flyer from the Weatherford Aeromodeling Club regarding a float fly 8-24-02, and (3) a letter from HobbyTown USA regarding a new store opening at 4506 Kemp Blvd. In Wichita Falls.
OFFICER REPORTS
Secretary-Treasurer report: cash in banks: $1,522.16 and a gain year-to-date of $120.37.
Burkett and Jackson reported attending the Fort Worth Scale Masters Qualifier at Thunderbird Field on Saturday, August 10.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Field Committee: Ignacio reported he was repairing his mower. A work day will be scheduled in advance of the 9-28 event.
Public Relations Committee: Rovnyak reported plans to send photos to Dr. Sandy Frank from the June 8 Fun-Fly. Castor and Rovnyak donated photos to the club archives. Rovnyak also reported on his efforts to secure caps and shirts and will continue looking for a source.
Events Committee: Castor briefed the club on the procedures for the 9-28 event and reported that Tim Davie will be there to do a 3-D demo flight during the lunch break. Castor called a meeting of the club for Sunday, August 18 at the field to go over the judging rules. Jackson called another similat meeting for Sunday, August 25 at the field.
A discussion was held concerning the combining of Divisions 1 and 2, which was agreed to be the format. If possible, a minimum of 3 rounds will be flown. Total score for all flight rounds plus static score will be added up. Score sheets were discussed and a hand-out for pilots was reviewed and modified per the discussions. Potential judges were identified: Jackson, Ignacio, French, Martin, Roberts and Brock. Castor gave a brief introduction to judging. Burkett handed out copies of the RADIO CONTROL SCALE FLIGHT JUDGING GUIDE from the AMA Rule Book.
It was agreed that any pilot could enter as many aircraft as he wished, as separate entries, with the first aircraft entry being $15 and additional aircraft entries being $5 each. It was decided that a rule should be adopted that no pilot could win more than one prize.
Prizes: First Place-Name on the event trophy, a take-home trophy and an O.S. 91 Surpass II engine. Second Place- take-home trophy and a $75 Tower Hobbies gift certificate. Third Place-take-home trophy and a $50 Tower Hobbies gift certificate.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Burkett agreed to develop cost estimates for new asphalt surface for the runway and report back.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:07 p.m.
