GRAHAM R/C FLYERS

REGULAR MEETING

 September 13, 2005

Meeting was held on Sept 13th and called to order at 7 PM..

Attending were Bob and Mary Castor, Oliver and Marilyn Watson, Brad Brock, Bill Martin, me, and guest Larry Owens.

We had a long discussion about the future of our club and decided we all had too much time, money and effort invested in the club to let it die. Some of the key decisions made last night:

 1. The club will focus on ONE sanctioned AMA event each year, the spring fun-fly (or whatever format we decide)

2. We will also focus on more “club” events just for the members, such as scheduled flying sessions, picnics, etc.

3. The sanctioned events WILL happen—no more cancellations

4. ALL members will need to step up when we have an event, get it on their calendars, and be there

5. Club meetings will get back on a regular schedule, and attendance will be stressed

Unfortunately, Bill Martin has recently sold all of his gear and is no longer in the hobby. He stressed that his hiatus may be short-term, but in the meantime, he feels he would not do justice to the office of President and has stepped down. He has offered to remain a member and offer his help as and when he can, and we all appreciate that. All of the members at the meeting expressed their commitment to help keep the club going.

In Bill’s absence, Vice President Brad Brock will serve as interim President. At the October meeting, set for Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Zack Burkett Co., we will have two major items of business:

-           Election of President to fill Bill’s unexpired term, which ends 12-31-06

-          Setting the date for the spring 2006 fun-fly

It was agreed at the meeting that any club member in good standing (dues paid up) is eligible to serve as President. By-Law restrictions will be waived (terms limits, succession limits, etc). So if you’re interested in the job, let everyone know (do a little campaigning). We should NOT elect someone who has not indicated an interest and willingness to serve.

Another item we will discuss at the October meeting is getting some more AMA Contest Directors lined up to serve. With Dick Rovnyak’s moving away, Bob Castor is the only CD in the club, and we can’t continue to impose on him to be CD for every event.

In our efforts to re-energize the club, I suggest you bring a potential new member to the October meeting, and keep this in mind for all future meetings. Our guest at last night’s meeting, Larry Owens, is interested in joining, so be sure to encourage him to join the club.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE OCTOBER 11 MEETING. And if you’re interested in serving as President, get the word out.

Zack Burkett, III, Sec-Treas.
